PARC View 25th August 2008

THE CHURCH'S YEAR OF ST PAUL :  This special year dedicated to St Paul commenced in June 2008 and concludes in June 2009. Several District newsletters make reference to this in the light of the Founder's extensive reference to the writings of St Paul in his own works. Br Nicholas Hutchinson of the District of Great Britain/Malta has developed resources; “Praying with St Paul ”. See the July 2008 edition of “Lasallians Great Britain Malta” for details. The Archdiocese of Hong Kong has produced a special prayer for the year.
ALLIANCE COUNCIL MEETING: The Alliance Council meeting 31 July-1 August received reports from two Think Tanks; one on Formation, Vocations Promotion and Accompaniment of Brothers and the other on Mission and Partner Formation. The Council recognizing the work ahead is planning to appoint an Executive Secretary (Project Officer) to deal with matters of transition including; finances, canonical matters, timelines, sector representation, governance and organization, strategic development, development of vision and a constitution and planning of an assembly of convocation. Once a Position Description is finalized, a search for a Brother suitable for the position will take place; firstly throughout PARC. Up to eighty Brothers from the contributing sectors will attend a forum/ retreat during Holy Week 2009 in Thailand . Bro Bill Mann will be the retreat presenter and I will facilitate the forum. This is indeed progress with a collaborative spirit and energy so evident in the group. Thanks to Br Dodo, Visitor for hosting the meeting and Br Vic Franco for the use of facilities and hospitality at CSB.
PARC LASALLIAN INSTITUTE:  Mark Murphy has sent you the evaluations of the inaugural programme and from all accounts it was a great success. The Advisory Board met immediately afterwards and will have some recommendations to make to PARC 32. Special thanks to Mark Murphy, JayJay Jimenez, Dodo, Vic, not to forget Aidan Kilty and all who contributed to the success of the programme. However all would not have been possible without the strong support given by Brothers Visitors, Auxiliary Visitors and Presidents.
TEACHING ENGLISH IN VIETNAM :  Peter Phat has informed me that the best time for people to go to Vietnam to teach English is during the September to May period. Contact him directly if people from your sector can assist.
MINUTES SECRETARY PARC MEETINGS: Bro Arian Lopez of the District of the Philippines will be minutes' secretary for future PARC meetings. He graciously performed the task well at the recent Alliance Council meeting.
SCHEDULE:  Later in the week I leave for the next plenary session of the General Council which includes the Annual Retreat; 28 September-5 October District Chapter AUSNZPNG; 6 October La Salle Alumni Bangkok; 7 October National Mission Council, Manila ; 9-15 October, Pakistan .
Kind Regards

David Hawke FSC
