LASALLIAN PRAYERS FOR PEACE

HONG KONG: All Lasallian schools in Hong Kong prayed the prayer for peace regularly during the time.

AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, PAPUA NEW GUINEA: A common reflection was prepared and prayed simultaneously across five time zones.

SINGAPORE: Over 100 Lasallian Youth gathered in a courtyard at St Joseph’s Institution around the Br Joe McNally sculpture of the Chinese character for God for a late night candle light prayer vigil. A multi media presentation included the origin of UN Day for Peace, graphic images from across the globe and prayers representing the Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu faith traditions. I found the vigil very moving.

MALAYSIA: All Lasallian schools had prayer services at various stages across the month with more information to be provided.

JAPAN: Brother Jose del Coss, at La Salle Gakuen, Kagoshima, introduced a very impressive trophy awarded to a student who promoted peace.

WELCOME TO PARC

LASALLIAN EAST ASIA DISTRICT PLANNING

Brothers Thomas Lavin, Edmundo Fernandez and Mr Ronnie Holmes have competed draft statutes relating to the administration of the new District of LEAD. The draft will be presented to various sector assemblies over the next few months prior to being considered by the Alliance Council in January and then Br Superior and the General Council.

SOLIDARITY WITH PHILIPPINES

Thanks to all who expressed solidarity and offered assistance through the District of the Philippines during the recent typhoons. It seems by the news I watched last evening that more typhoon activity is on the way.

WORLD YOUTH DAY AND VOCATIONS

The latest “Review for Religious” has an interesting article on the above topic stating that many Vocations Directors for religious life and priesthood state that attending WYD was significant for candidates discerning a vocation. Be prepared for WYD in Madrid!

WELCOME BACK MARK MURPHY

I met Mark during a Delegation of Thailand Council meeting on Wednesday. He is refreshed after his vacation and fundraising in California. On 1 November he heads for the novitiate in Lipa where he will take classes on the Vow of Association for the Educational Service of the Poor.

Fraternal greetings.
