NEW PUBLICATION: The fruit of five years’ research across the globe by Bro Rory Higgins has resulted in the recently released book; “Bothian and Amphian: De La Salle Brothers in Australia 1864-1867”. This very readable and well researched history not only gives valuable insights into the two Brothers pioneers but also offers the reader new information on the foundation of the Institute in Asia, particularly India and Singapore with commentary also on the life of the Brothers in Europe and North America. The book will be launched officially in Perth and Sydney later in the month. The layout and graphics in the book is the work of Novice Francis Edward del Rosario (Philippines). Congratulations to Bro Rory who is now working on his second book on praying with art. Brothers attending PARC 35 will receive a copy of “Bothian and Amphian”.
FLOODS THAILAND: Br Stephen Kan reports that La Salle at Sampran is under water and that the Postulants have gone to their homes. All colleges in the Sampran area are closed. The 60th Jubileecelebrations in Thailand on 28 November are proceeding as planned. La Salle Bangna is not affected by flooding.
BRO VICAR GENERAL VISITS LA SALLE NOVITIATE: Bro Thomas Johnson and Bro Claude Reinhardt, General Councillor, visited the novitiate in Lipa during the time that they were in the country for UMAEL. They had an interactive discussion with the novices and joined them for lunch. Their visit coincided with my time at the novitiate where I took classes on Circular 461. To be with 16 novices from various countries in PARC was a real tonic for me.
UMAEL: Over 500 delegates from around the world gathered under the banner “We Are 1 La Salle” in Manila for the international congress of alumni. Several Brothers attended also. The Lasallian alumni of the Philippines organized and planned a wonderful experience of interdependence. Henry Atayde of the Philippines was elected unopposed as the world President of UMAEL. The Institute and PARC websites will soon have full reports. The world catch cry is now ANIMO LA SALLE.
LASALLIAN SERVICES COMMITTEE: The LSC will meet in the PARC office in Singapore 21-22 November. This will be the final meeting chaired by Bro Mark Murphy. His successor Bro John Pill will be in attendance.
LA SALLE NOVITIATE REPORT: Bro Joseph Fernando has sent a report on his visit to the Novitiate to PARC Visitors/President. This report will be part of the agenda of the La Salle Novitiate Board which will meet during PARC 35. The report serves as a reminder also that, given the one year novitiate, post novitiate programmes are planned to be held in Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
