8 October 2012 SIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN THE CHURCH: This week sees the opening in Rome of the Synod on the New Evangelization and the beginning of the Year of Faith. Our Superior General is present at the Synod as an auditor. DIRECTOR OF LASALLIAN SERVICES OUT AND ABOUT: In recent times John Pill has been in the District of Colombo and the Hong Kong sector of LEAD. Over a period of seventeen days in Sri Lanka he obtained an awareness of the life of the Brothers and the delivery of the mission and assisted the District in drawing up an action plan for the ongoing development of Association with particular attention to structures and formation. Over this past weekend John was in Hong Kong where he attended on Saturday morning a Lasallian induction programme for 110 teachers during which he gave a 10 minutesˇ¦ input. He also met various administrators, the coordinator of Lasallian Volunteers and senior students bound for APLYC in Thailand. During the afternoon he attended the APLEC meeting which ˇ§provided an interesting insight into the workings of the schools and Lasallian Partners.ˇ¨ On Sunday he visited De La Salle, Fanling, which is situated close to the border with Mainland China. He continues to coordinate the Mission Review process for the Delegation of India. APLYC THAILAND: Registrations from most countries in PARC have been received with Bro Danai, coordinator of the programme anxious to hear from others as the countdown is now 55 days until the first ever APLYC commences in Thailand. John Pill has done an excellent job following up registrations. WORLD YOUTH DAY JULY 2013: I notified Districts/Delegation recently with information on the gathering of Young Lasallians to take place in conjunction with World Youth Day. I would be interested in any feedback. Do you know of any Young Lasallians planning to attend either in a Lasallian group or in Diocese/Parish groups? In the interests of international solidarity it would be good to have PARC represented by some young people.
